About Farnborough Hampshire:-
Bordering Hampshire and Surrey, Farnborough is best known as the home of the Farnborough Airshow which takes place once every two years.
With a population of 57,000, Farnborough has other links to aircraft with the transfer of His Majesty's balloon factory in 1906, with more laterly Farnborough Aerodrome, the Air Accidents Investigation Branch and the international headquarters of BAE Systems.
The nucleus of the old village is what is now called Farnborough Street, near the South Eastern Railway station. There are still two old houses to be seen, which are the last survival of the old village, and at the cross roads is an old knotted elm.
The road between Farnborough and Farnham is said to have been a resort of the famous highwayman Dick Turpin.
In the Domesday Book of 1086. The Towns name is formed from Ferneberga which means "fern hill". Changing then to Farnburghe, Farenberg (13th century); Farnborowe, Fremborough and Farneborough (16th century).
The town is the home of St. Michael's Abbey. The Imperial Crypt there is the resting place of Napoleon III (1808–1873), Emperor of the French, and his wife, Eugénie de Montijo, (1826–1920) and their son, Napoléon, Prince Imperial. The Abbey was the home of the Catholic National Library from 2007 until it was relocated to Durham University Library in 2015.
The town is probably best known for its association with aviation, with the Farnborough Aerodrome, Royal Aircraft Establishment, and the Air Accidents Investigation Branch.
Farnborough is part of the Borough of Rushmoor, along with Aldershot. It contains eight wards, each with three elected borough councillors. Until 2011, there were nine wards, but following the Electoral boundary reviews, Grange and Mayfield wards were merged to create Cherrywood ward.
